Accessibility Statement
This accessibility statement applies to the public pages of the Scunthorpe Mandir website (www.scunthorpemandir.org.uk). It covers the static HTML pages built for this site, including Home, About Us, Prayers, Gallery, Events, Contact Us, Donation, Newsletters, Documentation, and the Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, and Accessibility pages linked from the footer.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. This statement describes what we have done so far, where we know there are limitations, and how you can contact us if you need help.

How accessible this website is
We believe the main structure of the site is usable with common browsers, screen readers, and keyboard navigation. However, some content does not yet fully meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard. Known limitations are listed below.
What web accessibility is
An accessible website allows visitors with disabilities to browse and use the site with the same or a similar level of ease and enjoyment as other visitors. This can be achieved through the capabilities of the system on which the site operates, and through assistive technologies.
Accessibility measures on this site
We have taken the following steps on the pages this statement covers:
- Pages are written in HTML with a clear heading structure (one main
h1per page, with subheadings where needed) - The site language is set to English (
lang="en") - Navigation links use descriptive text
- The mobile menu button includes an accessible label (
aria-labelandaria-expanded) - The layout is responsive and adapts to different screen sizes
- Body text uses readable fonts and line spacing
- Meaningful images on the Home page include alternative text (for example, the Ganesha image)
- External links to documents and third-party services open in a new tab where appropriate, with
rel="noopener noreferrer"
Known limitations
We are aware of the following issues and are working to improve them:
- Gallery and Events photos — many photographs on the Gallery and Events pages currently have empty alternative text. We plan to add descriptive text where possible.
- PDF documents — newsletters and other downloadable PDFs linked from the site may not be fully accessible to screen-reader users. If you need information from a PDF in another format, please contact us.
- Google Maps embed — the map on the Contact Us page is provided by Google and may not fully meet accessibility standards. The full address and a directions link are also provided in text on that page.
- Newsletter sign-up — the mailing-list text on the Newsletters page is not yet connected to a working online form. Please contact us by email if you wish to subscribe.
Because of these limitations, we do not currently claim full WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, but we aim to move closer to that standard over time.
